Andrea Update – February 3, 2012

Here’s the latest update from earlier this week via Andrea’s mom, Sandi Voss:

“Snowy day in Michigan. Mike and Lydia went home to Pendleton and I will be staying here with Andrea this week.  She is looking forward to a visit on Saturday with several of her Wright State volleyball teammates that will make the trip to Michigan.  We spent a lot of time today talking about those first weeks following the Aug. 13 accident.  She doesn’t have any memory of the first two months and she does not remember being in the first two hospitals.  She is starting to have lots of questions.  I answer her honestly and try to explain as much as I can.  She looked at pictures and video taken during those first months.  It helped both of us realize how far she has come.  I also began reading Tyler’s notes to her.  The staff here reports a lot of improvement both physically and cognitively.  We are so thankful for this opportunity for this treatment.  Her next surgery has been scheduled for Feb. 20.  She is so anxious to get rid of her helmet.  We will keep our fingers and toes crossed and send up lots of prayers that her skull will stay free of infection this time.  I know lots of precautions will be taken.  Lives are still being touched by Andrea’s story.  My nephew, niece, Andrea and I were talking in the lobby of the hotel yesterday.  We were talking about why things happen and God’s part in all of this.  A stranger approached us and wanted to know the story.  Being a man of faith he was not surprised by the miracle but he did get very emotional while speaking with Andrea.  He shared something that had happened in his family and I really felt like our paths were supposed to cross yesterday.  You never know when very special moments will happen in your life.”

Thanks again so much to everyone for continuing to follow Andrea’s progress, continuing to sport their FTLOA gear (coziest t-shirts ever, right?!), and continuing to keep the Voss / Vellinga family in their thoughts & prayers.  Please continue to check the For the Love of Andrea Facebook page for the latest on fundraisers and updates on Andy (!)  And mark your calendars for May 19…  we’re running a race in Andrea’s honor!  More details to follow.

Have a great weekend!
